Intro to Kayaking

Start your kayaking adventure here! In this course, we’ll cover the basics of boats and gear before heading onto the water to learn essential kayaking strokes. Our focus is on staying on top of the water as we teach skills that will help you confidently explore near shore.

Rescue

Our rescue class takes place in the comfort of the Courtenay & District Memorial Outdoor pool.  In this lesson we learn how to fall out of our boat and help each other get back in.  The skills taught are wet exits and tandem rescues, and if there's time we play with different types of solo rescues.

Edging & Bracing

This is the final step in our series of Introductory lessons.  During edging and bracing we explore all the strokes taught in Intro to Kayaking and add the element of doing them while edging our kayaks to increase manoeuvrability.  We end with a lecture on weather
and sea state that is required when planning short excursions.

Paddle Canada Level 1 Skills

This two-day course builds on Basic Skills, introducing paddlers to sea kayaking in slightly rougher water. Focus areas include re-entry techniques, navigation, route planning, weather interpretation, and proper gear. By the end, participants will be confident paddling in class-1 conditions with peers, equipped to safely plan and execute day trips.

Paddle Canada Level 2 Skills

Building on Level-1 skills, this course teaches intermediate techniques for paddling in class-2 conditions along semi-exposed shorelines. Key areas include leadership, incident management, open-water rescues, self-care, and navigation, preparing paddlers for more challenging sea kayaking adventures.

Custom Lesson

Custom lessons are a great option if you have specific goals in mind.  We have instructors that will build a plan with you before heading out on the water and we offer this in one hour increments.  Most lessons will require two hours or more but if you are interested in learning or building on your kayak roll one hour is plenty of time.

Senior Tour Tuesday

Join us for a relaxed and enjoyable kayaking experience designed specifically for seniors! During this session, our friendly instructor/guide will teach you the basic kayaking skills needed to feel confident on the water. After a short lesson, you'll enjoy a leisurely paddle, exploring the area at a comfortable pace. Perfect for seniors looking to try kayaking for the first time or those who want a low-key adventure. All equipment is provided. No prior experience is necessary.

Group Kayaking Trip

Intro to SUP

Want to try a new adventure that gets you on the water with minimal gear? Our SUP lesson will teach you about the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding. Typical skills covered include strokes, techniques to improve your balance, and how to get back on the board, however; topics can vary based on your experience level and preferences.  Meeting point and location will be weather and conditions dependent.

Teen Paddle Canada Basic Camp

The camp focuses on foundational skills and knowledge, preparing students for short paddling excursions in calm, sheltered waters. By the end, participants will have the confidence to paddle safely in calm conditions with peers of similar abilities. Teens will leave this camp with Paddle Canada Basic Sea Kayak Skills certification, the first step in the Paddle Canada Sea Kayak skills progression. 

Women on the Water Series

This four-session course is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to build confidence on the water! Learn essential kayaking strokes, practice rescues, and gain trip-planning basics like navigation, weather, and tidal charts—all in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Have you taken a lesson but still feel unsure about paddling on your own or leading a group? These sessions are designed to boost your confidence! With no structured lesson, you'll have the opportunity to practice your paddling skills while receiving personalized feedback and guidance from a certified instructor.

This course is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to build confidence on the water! Join us for the full 4 week skill building series or drop in for a class or two. No experience required!
